“Füszerpaprika Szegedi” (Sweet Paprika Szegedi) should not be confused with a variety currently sold in America as “Giant Sweet Szegedi.” That variety is more like a pointed bell pepper with thick walls. This is a small-medium sized (3-5”) deep red sweet pepper with thinner walls, from the region of Szeged in Hungary. It is said to be one of the more common peppers in that area. I have a difficult time growing thick-walled peppers in my humid heat…they tend to rot just as they ripen. This is a better alternative for my area, easy to grow and nicely sweet. Füszerpaprika Szegedi is reportedly known for its strong pigment, which is a plus for my use in making smoked paprika.
