“Glovel” is one of the sweeter of the forgotten commercial heirlooms I am growing now. It is easily as sweet as Louisiana Gulf State, and has an excellent turgid texture that makes this one shine for fresh eating. It is indeed pink, as I verified the clear epidermis specifically because the appearance was rather red to my eyes.
Glovel is, of course, tolerant to heat and humidity, and is said to be “wilt” resistant…but I do not know which variety or strain of wilt this might be. It is a segregation from the cross of Globe x Marvel, which cross also produced the sister segregate “Marglobe”.
I have limited stock of both Glovel and Louisiana All Season, as those seeds were given to me later than my usual seed-starting window…but I couldn’t resist growing them this spring. Consequently, they both were “housed” in small pots and did not produce as well as they normally would. I will be growing these again next season in at least pickle buckets, or larger.
