“Kiss the Sky” is a new favorite tomato for me! The reason is the taste. I am a huge fan of Brandywine and Black Cherry and Cherokee Purple…but the first two just do not produce worth a flip in my garden. I get one fruit from Brandywine and 1-3 fruits from Black Cherry. And I have grown these again and again…but finally gave up.
“Kiss the Sky” is a regular leafed growout of Keith Mueller’s Purple Haze F1, selected and stabilized by Tatiana Kouchnareva of Anmore, BC, Canada in 2008-2012. To me, it has the unique smooth and sweet flavor of Brandywine, combined with the deeper flavor in Cherokee Purple. I love it.
The fruits are lovely as well. They have the unique translucent appearance which I speculate may come from Black Cherry. In my garden it was a healthy and fairly compact plant both in the 7 gallon pot and in the ground (it was one that somehow dodged the bacterial wilt, wireworm, and nematodes bullets). Size of fruits from the potted plant were saladette, not cherry. Fruits from the plant in the ground were slightly larger. Overall size and shape were consistent, and the fruit set was excellent for my growing conditions. I highly recommend this variety if you are one who prefers a smoothly sweet tomato with plump, turgid flesh. Additional stock available.
