“Red Belgian” (Red Belgium) is another one of those peppers that has at least two names, with identical descriptions and images. Yes, this drives me crazy. As more vendors use the name “Belgian” versus “Belgium,” I will list that name first. Red Belgian is reported to be a family heirloom from Belgium, but I cannot locate a definitive history or verify this general statement of origin.
This a great pepper for people who find dark green-to-red bell peppers too strong in flavor and indigestion production. The pale green/yellow unripe stage is quite eatable, and the red ripe stage is sweet and even tastier. These were easier for me to grow than traditional blocky bell peppers, but were also smaller in fruit size.
