“Afternoon Delight” reminds me very much of Lucid Gem, as both are large red/yellow bicolor beefsteaks with anthocyanin shoulders, both produced by Wild Boar Farms. Lucid Gem is stated to be a sister line to Blue Beauty though, and Blue Beauty came from a cross of Beauty King and an unnamed blue tomato. Brad Gates lists “Afternoon Delight” on his website as: “Large and very meaty red / yellow bi-color beefsteak with purple anthocyanin splashes on the sun kissed fruits. This was an accidental cross between big rainbow and an unknown anthocyanin line 5 years ago.”
I grew Lucid Gem in 2017 for this season, and grew Afternoon Delight in spring 2018 for the coming season (seasons running from fall of the growing year to the following year’s fall). I couldn’t tell you if there were a significant difference in flavor. They are both very good, tasty varieties, and as beautiful as a watercolor painting.
NOTE: Crop Fail 2019, very few seeds harvested this season. One packet per order please.
