“Alexander,” a pritamin paprika from Hungary, has sweet and thick flesh. The fruits are a squatty, red cheese type. While researching this variety, I found something of interest. It appears that some growers have thought that the name of the variety is “pritamin;” but in fact, pritamin is the generic name for a type of Hungarian thick pepper sauce. Pritamin is made with ground peppers and salt, and used as a condiment on roasted meats and other foods. It can be made with sweet peppers or spicy ones. I am supposing that the squatty cheese types are preferred for this use because of their thick flesh.
