“Banana Currant” appears to be an original cross of Banana Legs with Goldrush Currant from Plant World Seeds.
From the vendor’s site, it appears that this variety was released prior to stability. My seeds came from a friend’s saved seeds, and my fruits look like her fruits did, so I will guess that whatever generation this is, the fruits are probably stable. Still, I will mark this as a developing line, just in case.
These are very cute, miniature golden yellow watermelons. Well, they are shaped like watermelons, at any rate. The skins were not thick or tough, despite what was described from the earlier generation. The size is roughly the length of my pinky finger from the distal interphalangeal joint to the tip…a little over 2cm or just about ¾ inch. Like a cucamelon. Banana Currant fruits are tart little jokers, and that is pretty refreshing at this size. I probably wouldn’t want to eat a large slab o’ beefsteak at this level of tartness, but in a little burst of juicy mater, it is just right.
With judicious pruning, this would grow well in a hanging basket or cascading pot.
