“Chocolate Dreams” is a segregate I found out of Tom Wagner’s Beautiful Dreamer line. The parentage is complex and part of it is unknown. From Tom Wagner’s online forum, I captured this description, “…pedigree is an F-3 of WHITE BEAUTY & BRANDY STRIPES crossed to BRAD’S SLEEVES for an F-1 crossed further to an unknown variety.” The original Beautiful Dreamer seeds that were sold resulted in lovely red tomatoes with a varying amount of antho shoulders, according to the posted pictures. I found additional segregates, some as chocolate tomatoes and some as red. All that I saw had antho dusting to heavy antho shoulders.
This segregate is very interesting, as the skin is super-shiny, the shape is almost like a fat little donut, and the unripe color is lime green. The ripe color is like melted chocolate. No antho at all has evidenced. The texture and flavor are excellent, complex as dark tomatoes are, but also sweet.
I believe that the plant growth habit is indeterminate; however, it was a shorter and bushier plant in general than most indeterminates that I grew. I am listing this as a developing line, although it has remained the same in appearance each time I grew it.
