“Dark Queen” is a fairly recent release from Brad Gates. In his vendor site, Wild Boar Farms, Mr. Gates compared Dark Queen in looks and flavor to Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye. I am going to mark this one in my listing as a developing variety, however, as the fruits I grew were not oblate 1-pound beefsteaks. They were small to medium round salads. The striping and flesh were the same. There may be a few changes still to come.
Dark Queen had a bit of trouble with cracking, but we had a very long period of heavy rains just as the fruits were reaching breaker. It is a later variety but earlier than Blushing Bride, and once it began to fruit, the productivity was impressive. The flavors may have been watered down due to the weather, and probably because of this I found it less sweet than musky, but very juicy.
