“Mary Italian” is a big gal, whose seeds appear to be sold mostly in Australia. She generously produces meaty red beefsteaks with somewhat scalloped tops. I cannot find a specific history for Mary Italian, other than that she is an heirloom variety. I have tried to grow her for three years; however, she is a late variety and never until this year was I able to get her planted in time to produce fruit before my usual summer tomato blitz. The flesh is succulent, delicious, with a strong tomatoey flavor that is acid and sweet. The gel is thick, but that may have been in response to the uneven watering that occurred just before breaker. If you have a good 90 days of growing season, Mary Italian will be worth trying.
