“Meat Breakfast” (мясной завтрак) is evidently a variety from Russia. I did not know this until, on a hunch, I translated the English name to Cyrillic…did a little web search, and there it was! The only thing I cannot discover is if Meat Breakfast is an heirloom or a Russian commercial variety. I received the seeds in a trade with a friend in France. The color is difficult to catch in a photo and computer monitor…with a clear epidermis over orange flesh, the color is a lovely apricot orange. The flavor is sweet (as I love) with acid and plump, turgid flesh. Like a fish-eyed fool, I planted this one in the ground this season because I ran out of space in my pots. Of course this variety is not prepared to defend itself against nematodes and bacterial wilt, so I did not get many fruits before the plant died. I am trying to get additional stock with a fall planting in a nice large pot.
