“Mei Wei Yellow” is a lush yellow cherry tomato from China, and I suppose it is a sister of the Mei Wei that is a red cherry. The leaves are an interesting shape. It is regular leaf but seems to have more scalloped edges than most regular leaf types do. The plant grew to 4' in a pickle bucket. Mei Wei (red) is fairly easy to find, but this yellow version is a bit difficult to lay hands on, at least in the US.
There must be something about yellow and orange cherries that I really like, because I have grown a bunch of them, and am always trialing at least two new candidates each year. Some taste very mild, others are a bit sharp, but a few taste delicious with sweet flesh, sour gel, and that balance between sugar and acid that makes for a flavor punch that is very pleasant. Mei Wei Yellow is one of these. In addition to the really excellent flavor, the cherries are fat and large, with smooth meaty flesh and lots of juice.
