“Stripes of Yore” is a creation by Tom Wagner that has evolved from his original stated intention of a red-fruited tomato with vivid blue stripes. Mr. Wagner noted that most of the selections which growers pursued were yellow with a striped blue cap. I found five vendors listing Stripes of Yore, and all featured some type of yellow salad tomato. Most had anthocyanin. One vendor stated that there was anthocyanin; however, the photos showed only a yellow salad with dark green stripes before fully ripe, no antho. The fruits my plant produced matched the size and color, yellow salads, with antho caps. The purple coloration extends down to the sides of the fruits in a striping; however, these are not stripes such as are found in varieties like Chocolate Stripes.
At less than fully ripe, the flesh is very pale yellow and firm. It turns golden yellow and pleasantly yielding when fully ripe. The flavor was sweeter than I thought it would be, with acid to balance. Stripes of Yore was a little slower than its neighbors to get production going on, but then it hit its stride and produced many fruits.
