W. Scott at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center at the University of Florida. I am going to recite its illustrious pedigree here just for fun. It all began with Walter x MH11. A selection from its F5 generation was crossed with Cl 11d. A selection from the F6 generation of that line was crossed with Campbell 28. At the same time, Hawaii 7997 was crossed with 645. A selection from the F4 generation of the Campbell 28 line was crossed with a selection from the F7 generation of the Hawaii 7997 line\u2026to make (drumroll)\u2026Neptune! Neptune was released at F11.<br \/>\nAn excellent tomato database states that the high crimson \u201cSuncoast\u201d is a parent of Neptune, but that is not the case. I have taken my information from Dr. Scott\u2019s research article from 1995, in which he introduces this variety.<br \/>\nSo\u2026what is the fuss about? Well, it is an early and determinate red tomato that is resistant to bacterial wilt and has heat tolerance. I will also add that it is not bothered by nematodes or high humidity. A gardener in the southeast US can get quite a few of these planted in a row for stocking the freezer with flavorful sauce.
