The words \u201cjalape\u00f1o\u201d and \u201cmundo\u201d were combined to create the name \u201cJalmundo,\u201d suggesting that this jalape\u00f1o is as large as the world.  The breeding for this chile was intricate, but the original parents were Keystone Resistant Giant (bell pepper) and Early Jalape\u00f1o. NuMex Jalmundo has a heat that is medium in a jalape\u00f1o scale, where Early Jalape\u00f1o is hot, and NuMex Primavera is mild. Scoville units are approximately 17,000, which can vary with growing conditions. Hot and dry growing conditions will produce hotter fruits than wet and cooler conditions.<br \/>\nI planted NuMex Jalmundo in a new bed which had little compost and was largely poor sandy soil. I used a wood chip mulch to keep the roots cool and prevent the sand from drying out so quickly. My plant grew to nearly 3 feet tall, and I would expect this size to be greatly increased with better soil. The plant covered itself with fruits, many of which I enjoyed fresh, but most of my bagged blooms did not set fruit in the unseasonable heavy rains we experienced in May. Therefore, my seed count per packet is low and not a reflection on the productivity of this variety.<br \/>\nThe flesh is thick, crunchy, juicy, and tolerably hot. This is a perfect pepper for making poppers.  <strong>NOTE: One packet per order please.
