“Ramito de Dulce, Pink” is said to be a wild currant tomato (Solanum pimpinellifolium) from Mexico. All of the descriptions I can find on this are that the fruits are red. None of the photos (there are very few) really do not show for certain if the fruits are pink or red. Mine are pink. The flesh is very red, but with a clear epidermis, it is a pink tomato. I don’t know if it has always been pink and nobody checked the epidermis color, or if this is a variant of the reported red fruited variety. To avoid confusion, I will add “Pink” to the name.
Ramito de Dulce, Pink produces yummy little (less than 1/10 ounce) bursts of seedy goodness in your mouth. You MUST like tomato seeds though. All currants really are is a bit of skin with lots of seeds and gel, but usually with great flavor. If you are a nibbler like me, these will appeal to you. One thing I love about wild currant varieties is that the fruits are so abundant, I can grow them in hanging baskets or 1-2 gal pots to keep the plant size in check and still have plenty of fruits. This is how I grew Ramito de Dulce this spring, in a small pot tumbling from a tall shelf. There were still more fruits than I could pick.
