“Cookie Select” is an open-pollinated selection from the hybrid Cookie F1, that was stabilized by Helene Orskaug, of Norway (http://tomatprat.blogspot.fr). The flavor on this variety is rich and sweet, and the texture of the flesh is crisp. It is a prolific fruiter, but the stinkbugs love it (they always know the best tasting tomatoes!) and they consistently win the battle of fruits that make it to harvest (stinkbugs are very difficult to control organically in my hot/humid garden). Cookie Select has a striking appearance of chocolate (dark flesh with yellow epidermis) bullets with green stripes. Germination testing has been an issue in the past until I realized that it, like Coyote and many currant-types, germinate very well indeed in a mix rather than the paper towel in plastic bag method. I do not know why this is…I speculate that light could have something to do with it but have not had time to research this. Typical of the fat bullet shape, Cookie Select may split after heavy rains. I grow it under the eaves of my house so that the watering mostly comes from me rather than the rain and so the splitting is very rare this way.
