“Dwarf Pico’s Pride” is one of three variegated-leaf Dwarf Tomato Project varieties I trialed this year. The other two were Dwarf Elsie’s Fancy and Dwarf Walter’s Pride. Although none of the three varieties did as well in the heat/humidity for me as Sweet Splash Electra did, all three did produce tasty fruit and really beautiful variegated leaves. Of the three variegated varieties I trialed, Dwarf Pico’s Pride had by far the best flavor. There was an intensity of sweet and tart that I really liked. The flesh is yellow with a clear epidermis, which is commonly called “white” in tomato-color-land. Dwarf Walter’s Fancy fruit is similar in appearance except those were flatter, like small beefsteaks, while Dwarf Pico’s Pride produced 4 oz white fruits with a round shape. The fruits were described by one vendor as “bright yellow”; however, there is a clear epidermis and that makes these white fruits. I cannot tell you for certain is if this is an indeterminate dwarf or a determinate dwarf…none of the current listings I found gave any information on growth habit other than “dwarf.” I am going to say it is an indeterminate dwarf based on the growth habit of the plants I had. Maybe someone can correct me on this if it is incorrect. The only regret I have in growing Dwarf Pico’s Pride is that I didn’t plant more than one plant and ended up stuffing it into a pot too small for it. I didn’t know that it would be the best of the three. Therefore, I have only a few seed packets to offer this season. I will be planting more next season. NOTE: One packet per order please.
