“Faelan’s First Snow” has an interesting history. On July 12th, 2011, member “Lochlain” wrote this original post in the Tomato Depot forum. “…About a month or so ago I was watering some plants at work (I work at a garden center) and I happened to notice a plant labelled Cherokee Purple which at first glance looked sun scalded…as I moved closer I noticed that it was variegated! I bought the plant and gave it a nice home in a decent sized container… I have named this selection ‘Faelan’s First Snow’. Faelan mean’s “young wolf” in Old Irish Gaelic…The “First Snow” part of the name alludes to the imagery of a light early snow that has fallen on plants that are still green which the variegation reminded me of.” Blane Horton and Dean Slater as well as possibly others worked on stability with this line. It is stable; however, the striking variegation in the leaves will decrease during the growing season as best variegation occurs in bright, cool conditions. My summers are hot and often cloudy, so although I get excellent variegation in the leaves in the spring, the leaves are solid green by mid-summer. This is a tomato worth growing though for the flavor alone. If you like Cherokee Purple, you should like Faelan’s First Snow…they are very similar to me. Note: One packet per order please.
