“Fire and Ice” is a promising little pepper for small pot applications. I have read descriptions from all over the internet that state the plant height is anywhere from 8 inches tall to 18 inches tall. The fruits are said to be 3 to 4 inches long. The reports for heat range from 1,000 to 5,000 Scoville units, with descriptions stating “mild,” “medium,” and “quite spicy.”
I grew Fire and Ice in a one-gal nursery pot (which does not hold one gallon of soil, of course), and it fruited at 5 inches tall. It stopped growing at 6 inches tall. The fruits were 1 to 2 inches long. They are called “ornamental,” but they make a fine pepper vinegar for seasoning in a bottle at the table. Fire and Ice fruits also dry well, so they would make good hot pepper flakes for chili oil (on ramen!) or sprinkled as is.
It is most likely that the plant height and fruit size, as well as productivity, are affected by the size of the pot. I would also say that watering will account for a range in the heat of the fruits. If you grow this pepper indoors under lights, the small pot will limit the height, but if your lights are not balanced or bright, the plant may “stretch” to reach the lights. You can control the watering indoors, but in a very small pot, watering has less room for error. It is definitely worth a try though, perhaps several pots growing among your micro-dwarf tomatoes.
The seeds are the tiniest I have ever seen for a pepper. Germination was excellent though.
