“Bayou Dusk” is a Bunny Hop Seeds Original Creation. This chocolate (deep red flesh, chlorophyll retained, yellow epidermis) salad is a sister line to two other segregants of the same cross: Bayou Sun and Bayou Moon. Bayou Moon is the first release in this series and Bayou Sun is the second. The parents in this cross were Green Mustang (GWR beefsteak) x ATVO0102 (beta carotene cocktail from Africa with nematode and bacterial wilt resistance as well as moist heat tolerance). I kept this segregant back a little in the interest of a stabilized open-pollinated variety. Bayou Dusk’s flavor is rich and balanced with sweet and acid. It has the genetic inheritance of green shoulders that is associated with a more intense flavor than those without them. These are 4 to 6oz juicy salads, similar to Bayou Sun and Bayou Moon. It produces perseveringly, even setting (small) fruit on a plant in a 4” pot that I didn’t have the chance to set out…we’re talking maybe 1 to 2 cups of soil mix in that little pot. I believe that it is stable; however, I never fully trust these things, so I will mark it as a developing variety.
