“Bella Bimba” is a compact variety that makes beautiful pink pear/plum-shaped meaty tomatoes. My notes indicate that I found it juicy enough for fresh-eating as well as meaty enough for sauce, and that the flesh was sweet and soft but not mealy or mushy at full ripeness.
I cannot find a history on Bella Bimba. The color and shape remind me a bit of Angelina’s Italian, but Bella Bimba is more smoothly shaped. I found a single database mention of Bella Bimba with no photo, which described it as having red plum/elongated fruits and indeterminate growth. It was determinate for me, and definitely pink, as I checked and found a clear epidermis. I have found that not every database or vendor checks the epi, and so sometimes I see fruits stated to be red or pinkish red or rosy etc., but this is not necessarily the case of their true color in genetic terms. Beautiful Baby, or Beautiful Child/Girl, is the English version of the name Bella Bimba…and this little (3 foot) plant with abundant plump pink pears, is just that.
