Butler Skinner is a really fine pink beefsteak variety that I chose to include in this season’s “Special Gift Packets” to send with orders from Bunny Hop Seeds. You have the option to add one packet with your order to your shopping cart with no extra charge. Please choose only one of these varieties listed as special gifts for each order. If your order contains more than one of the special gift varieties, I will select one of those to send.
Butler Skinner is reportedly named for a Winchester, Kentucky, jailer was said to have always grown a plant outside the city jail and would give away seedlings when he ran for office. I cannot actually locate this person in history at all, but I am still researching. I would like to continue the gifting tradition started by this gentleman.
NOTE: I have seen a record of this variety as having potato leaves, and also records of it having regular leaves. I somehow failed to take a photo of the leaves of this plant, and cannot remember (out of a great many varieties planted this year) if it was potato leaf or regular leaf. For some reason, I am thinking it is potato leaf, but I will now know until I start another seedling…then I will update this listing.
