“Dwarf Gold Locket” is a growout of a cross by our friend TimothyT in North Carolina. The parents are Orange Pixie x Orange Strawberry, and I have been working on this little dwarf since 2017. At one point I thought I had lost the heart shape, but then realized after a friend grew it and produced hearts that I had been planting it too late in my Gulf Coast climate. The more north you grow, the more pointed your tomato hearts can be. And so when I grow hearts, unless I start them very early, I get vaguely heart-shaped oblates. So I am very happy to finally get this little yummy orange dwarf heart out to share with everyone now. The flavor reminds me most of the Orange Strawberry parent, nicely sweet and rich if not overwatered. My plants generally top out at around 3 feet tall. My seeds are a little slow to germinate, as they were last season, but I did test them three separate times since October and had 100% germination at 11+ days.
