“Elf Tears, Pink” is a lovely little teardrop-shaped cherry tomato that reminds me in certain lights of frosty pink lipstick fashionable in the mid-1900s. In other light it is a warm pink similar to Maglia Rosa…but the shape is long and slender, with a bulbous pear end. The fruits are juicy and moderately sweet with a nice tartness. They become sweeter when dead ripe on the plant in warm temperatures. I love this little tomato as a hanging basket variety. The stems and leaves are very dainty although profuse in growth. I grew it in a 10 gal pot with a tall cage twice and then grew it in a 3 gallon bucket on a shelf, cascading, and liked best the hanging potential. Fruits are easier to reach, and it can be grown hanging in smaller spaces such as balconies or porches (or cascading from a shelf if hanging apparatus is not available).
An important added note here is that Elf Tears, Pink does not appear to be stable yet. You may also end up with Elf Tears, White. It came to me this way from the vendor, and even with three more generations, it is still producing the occasional white (yellow flesh with clear skin) fruited plants. I will therefore list it as a developing variety.
