“Gatherer’s Gold Sweet Italian” is an original creation by Wild Garden Seed. I normally buy my salad greens seeds from Wild Garden, as they have the most wonderful variety of beautiful and delicious lettuces, mustards, and more…many of them original creations. I like to grow things that don’t look like what is in the grocery store (otherwise, why not just go to the grocery store?)…but I digress. Wild Garden’s description: “We did not expect the bright red hybrid parent of our pepper project to generate beautiful golden versions of the Italian. Large plants with long wrinkled tapered fruits and few seeds. Remains gold even at full maturity.” This pepper is a rich orange-gold. Not as orange as Giant Sweet Devil’s Horn, but more orange than Golden Treasure. The fruit size is marvelous, about 6 to 8” long in my garden (possibly larger in yours), and so useful for grilling, roasting, eating raw, and anything else you’d want to do with a yummy sweet pepper.
