“Okinawa Pink” is a really gorgeous okra. I originally stated that I couldn’t call the pods “bubblegum pink” or even “stunning pink,” as the color seemed to be pretty much what all other reddish okra varieties are (although some are lighter and some are darker in that same shade). What I saw later is that as the pods age they do fade into a very nice pink, rather like a dusty pink. I will try to get a photo of the pods at the pink stage next season. The leaves are huge fans with wicked red stems and the whole plant is really gorgeous enough to grow for ornamental…EXCEPT that the okra pods are yummy. So you definitely want to eat them. Oddly enough, I searched and searched and SEARCHED and could not find anything that shows this okra is really from Okinawa. All of the Japanese seed vendor sites, all of their recipe and vegetable information sites that I could find only show green okra varieties. I just could not find this proof. One packet per order please.
