“Opal Essence” is one of the most perfect pink tomatoes I have ever grown. Remember that I love sweet varieties, nice productive globe/slightly oblate, with tiny cores and little waste. I do not know the history behind Opal Essence, but I did see a vendor call it the same thing as Pink Sweet. I do not believe that these are the same variety. Pink Sweet is a large beefsteak with bumpy shoulders, while Opal Essence makes these lovely smooth globe/slightly oblate fruits. So ladylike, Opal Essence is sweet and smooth for salads, sandwiches, and eating with a fancy little fork or with your fingers…but be sure to prink your pinky up in a true ladylike fashion!
