“San Antonio Rose” is a luscious pink beefsteak brought to us by my gardening forum friend, TimothyT in NC. He made the original cross of Big Cheef x (Pruden’s Purple x Indian Stripe), and this pink beefsteak is a sister line to Carolina Dusk. In a joint effort with a devoted group of growing partners in the forum, years were spent in trialing many segregates with careful selection for best flavor, and most disease tolerance. The best of the best was eventually selected, and it was named “San Antonio Rose” in honor of growing partner Cheryl in San Antonio, who has worked so diligently with Timothy to stabilize these fine new varieties. Timothy has described the flavor as, “Absolutely yummy…It’s really got that ‘old timey southern tomatoey tang’ thing going!” My fruits were around 10 ounces, but the other growers have reported fruits up to one pound. The flesh is juicy and smooth, with excellent sweet flavor. This is a “Wow!” variety for certain. NOTE: One packet per order please, I want everyone to have a chance to try this variety!
