“Summer Best” was developed by Korea Choong Ang Seed., Ltd., South Korea. This is an exceptional pink salad variety with proven resistance to bacterial wilt and tobacco mosaic virus. It is stated to have cold tolerance, but I can also report that it has heat and humidity tolerance. It is an indeterminate medium-large salad with succulent, meaty flesh and delicious sweet flavor…and to me, that is the best part! Disease resistance and heat tolerance often do not come with wonderful flavor, but Summer Best does. My seeds came from the USDA/U.S. National Plant Germplasm System and my original intention was to breed from this variety, which I still plan to do.
