“Sweet Sister Patty” is one of three dwarf sister varieties from my gardening forum friend TimothyT in NC. This particular selection was worked on and named after another friend in the same forum, Pat of Kansas. The other sisters in this line are Sweet Sister Sunny and Sweet Sister Ellie.
Sweet Sister Patty has been described by Tim as “a delectable pink dwarf selection named after my sweet sister Patty. The plants are regular leaf rugose, indeterminate dwarfs with good production.” The height is roughly 3′-4′ tall at season end. “Fruit are pink, most are round in shape, with medium/thin skin, juicy yet meaty, and great complimenting balance of sweet and tangy and just down right tasty. Average size 4oz-5.5oz, with a few at 6oz-7oz.”
My own harvest of Sweet Sister Patty yielded lovely 4 to 6oz pink salads, with a very few larger, more oblate fruits from the “biggie blooms” I often get in the earliest fruit set while the weather is still cooler and moist. The flesh was nicely sweet with very good texture. Sweet Sister Patty did struggle a little in the heat and humidity to keep the fruit quality to full ripeness compared to Sweet Sister Sunny, but harvesting at not quite full ripeness and letting the fruits sit on the counter until fully ripe was a good solution.
Sweet Sister Patty comes from Tim’s cross of Sweet Sue x Indian Stripe, which makes it already a winner in my eyes as I love both of those varieties. I will close this description with Tim’s feelings about his goals for this line: “They have to live up to my beloved sisters’ delightful traits of being sweet, sassy, generous, dependable, good looking, and just down right all around most enjoyable!”
