“Atomic Fusion” is an eye-catching larger selection of Brad’s Atomic Grape. The reviews by home gardeners rated Atomic Fusion excellent for flavor and productivity as well as beautiful appearance. I can certainly vouch for the productivity. In fact it produced more fruit than any other tomato in my garden this year. I did have two major problems with Atomic Fusion though, and they were due entirely to my climate. At least 80% of my fruits split badly, often while still quite green. By the time I can get out in the morning after a night’s thunderstorm, the fruit flies have already laid eggs in the cracked fruits. If I cannot deseed them the same day, there will be larvae swimming inside the tomato…horrible. The only fruits I could salvage were those picked far too early, and because of this the flavor was not at all sweet. All reviews remarked on the incredibly sweet flavor, very appealing even to children. Mine were quite puckery and the texture was poor by the time they were ripe enough on my counters to deseed. My recommendation would be to grow this really excellent variety if you live in areas that do not fluctuate between dry + heat and monsoon + heat. You will be truly impressed with the heavy clusters of fruits hanging all over the plant, from deep in the plant to the very top. I expect that you will also be impressed with the flavor and texture when the fruits are able to ripen on the vine.
