“Orange Stout” is a medium to large orange beefsteak on a dwarf compact plant. This impressive dwarf is another newly developed winner from my friend TimothyT in NC. TimothyT described the interesting history: Orange Stout was developed from the HGOM (Husky Gold x Orange Minsk) line. Good production of very tasty large orange beefsteaks. There is nothing bland about the flavor of this orange as it has a good amount of sweet and a lot of that old fashioned tomatoey tang. It’s got that tangy zip/zing thingy going! You could call it the orange version of Alma’s Century Pink. Plant finishes out the season right at 4′ tall.
The fruits I harvested were excellently sweet and juicy with a plump, yielding texture. The plant did amazingly well in the heat and humidity for a dwarf variety. When it became too hot to set fruit, the plant simply stalled and waited until late September and began fruiting again…most of my tomato plants simply die before September, so having this healthy plant (still with nice leaves!) was pretty amazing. Thank you TimothyT!
