Emerald Green okra is another variety that appears to have many names. It is also called “Green Velvet,” “Emerald,” and “Emerald Green Velvet.” I am still uncertain if “Louisiana Green Velvet” is the same variety or something different with a very similar appearance. Emerald Green is a member of that “velvet group” that has smooth pods, without ridges, and a velvety texture on the surface. I usually grow this one every year, as it is an excellent performer and has that texture I prefer. Both of my photos here show several varieties of okra grouped together, but Emerald Green is easy to notice, as it has very smooth and round green pods.
