“Giuzeppi” is my new personal favorite Hatch NuMex chile from the folks at Solar Dry Chile farm in Hatch, New Mexico. Now, I know that I said this same thing over a year ago regarding Hatch Mild, but for my tender taste buds, Giuzeppi has it beat! The Scoville Units for Giuzeppi are 1,000 to 1,500, while Hatch Mild is just a bit more spicy at 2,000 SHU. So we could consider Giuzeppi to be one of the most mild of the Hatch Chiles. Giuzeppi was named after Joseph Franzoy who was the great-grandfather of owner Faron Lytle. According to Faron, Great-Grandfather Joseph “Giuzeppi” Franzoy was one of the first farmers to grow chiles in the Hatch Valley.
I do like hot peppers, and I love all Hatch type varieties, but as time passes, I am able to tolerate less and less of the capsaicin. I am rejoicing to find more of these mild chiles that have heavy yields, large size, and wonderful flavor. Highly recommended!
