“Carolina Dusk” is one of the best tasting and best textured purples I have ever eaten. A real winner. Rich and sweet, flesh is meaty and “plumpin’.” (If you are not sure what “plumpin'” means, feel free to watch the movie Madagascar 2…Gloria is “the plumpin’est.”)The original cross of Big Cheef x (Pruden’s Purple x Indian Stripe) was made by a gardening forum friend of mine, TimothyT in NC. In a joint effort with a great group of global growing partners in the forum, more than five years were spent in selecting for excellently flavored 5 to 8-ounce purple salads on a productive, vigorous plant. Growout participants and TimothyT had larger fruits. I do typically get fruits on the smaller end of the scale due to my very short tomato season. Big, lush potato leaves help to protect the fruit from sunscald. Carolina Dusk is a fine addition to my “WOW!” list this season. Highly recommended. NOTE: One packet per order please.
