“Doux Long d’Antibes” (Sweet and Long from Antibes) is an heirloom variety from southeast France. I grew it in 2013 from seeds I bought from the vendor Cherry Gal. That was before I began bagging blooms, and so when I tried to grow it the following year from saved seeds I ended up with a hot large orange horn. I could not find the seeds in the United States again. Doux Long d’Antibes is sold popularly in Europe, but not here…which I think is foolish because this is the most delicious and fragrant pepper, reminding me of childhood Juicy Fruit gum. I am so pleased to be able to offer it now. This is a rather short plant, around 2 to 3ft tall in a 7-gal grow bag. The fruits are rather narrow and elongated (not so tapered as a typical horn shaped pepper), and are more orange-yellow at full ripeness. Reading the descriptions from various vendors, I found that some describe it as having a mild heat while others state that it is sweet with no heat. On mine the flesh was sweet with no heat but the seeds have a tiny tingle. If grown in the summer heat with little water, I can imagine that the mild heat might permeate the flesh.
