“Dwarf Johnson’s Cherry” was developed from a cross between ‘Rosella Crimson’ with ‘Everglades’ made by Craig LeHoullier (Zelly family). I planted this variety after receiving seeds from a wonderful friend in Arizona. I thought that with “Everglades” in the heritage, Dwarf Johnson’s Cherry should do well in my hot and humid climate. I was right and wrong: right, because it did set fruit early and continued to set fruit through the season, and wrong, because the stink bugs loved it (they are attracted to the best tasting tomatoes) and the blast we received from the tail of hurricane Ida destroyed so many of my green fruits. I will certainly plant it again, because the taste was really excellent. I was surprised at the “wow!” balance and strength of sugar and acid that many cherries don’t seem to have. Remember that this should be a pink tomato, so the epidermis (skin) should be clear and the flesh regular red.
