Guarijio “Nescafe” is an okra said to be from Mexico. It is a very interesting variety in that reportedly the seeds can be ground, roasted, and used as coffee. I haven’t tried this myself, though. The okra itself as a vegetable is delicious enough to provide a reason to grow it. The pods are fat, stubby, and green. It reminds me very much of the Pot Belly heirloom I also grew this summer, in size and shape. Guarijio was more productive for me, but this could be because it had much more sun exposure in its location in the garden. I did grow Guarijio in a 7gal pot, so I can confidently say that you can grow full-sized okras in a pot and get enough vegetable harvest from it to eat.
