“Lumos” is an original creation by Bunny Hop Seeds. Well, it came from Fweddie-Fwed’s garden, anyway. The actual work was done by a love-struck and ambitious little bee, but I know that the cross was Coyote x Rose Quartz Multiflora. This event took place in spring 2014. With the help of two wonderful friends, I discovered the cross in 2015, and got a jump start on growing two segregates to stability.
This segregate has remained the same for three generations, and these seeds should be the F5 generation.
I named these pretty pale luminous cherries “Lumos,” because they reminded me of the tiny ball of light that glows on Harry Potter’s wand after he mutters the magic word, “Lumos!” The fruits are larger and possibly a bit more yellow than Coyote. The sweet flavor does not have as much muscat as does Coyote, but this may be a plus for those who do not care for a foxy grape flavor as much as I do.
One thing I must admit here. I have a terrible time somehow in getting good, reliable germination from my processed Coyote seeds. And this was also reported by a friend, so it may not just be my seed treating methods. Lumos, however, germinates easily, every time.
