“Iva’s Red Berry” is a cherry tomato developed, as one might expect, by a lovely woman named Iva, from Slovenia. This is a segregant of a stabilized cross between an OP Sungold (F2 or F3) and a volunteer Supersweet 100 (F2), by Iva G. in 2003. The fruits are abundant, lots of red cherries from dime to nickel-sized. These are larger than currant tomato fruits, but they are not large cherries either. Reportedly, the plants can get up to 7 feet tall, but mine have been grown in pots and so stayed a manageable size.
Before I even tasted my first fruit, I knew that the flavor would be something special. The stinkbugs covered the fruits, and honestly, they are attracted most highly by the best tasting fruits, those with strong sugars and acids. This has always been the case in my garden. My tasting notes state, “SWEET! STRONG! WOW!” Highly recommended.
