“Jamaican Yellow Mushroom” is one of these interesting mysteries, where you see something called different things, depending upon who is selling it. I received these seeds labeled “Yellow Scotch Bonnet.” Growing the pepper, I found that the plant was not C. chinense, as the Scotch Bonnets are said to be. Also, the shape and the heat were wrong for the Scotch Bonnet. But they were beautiful little golden yellow mushrooms and quite tasty. I looked around, and found these identified as Yellow Mushroom, Yellow Squash, Hot Yellow Mushroom, Jamaican Yellow Mushroom, and others. I could not discover if they really come from Jamaica or if that was added via seed vendor artistic license for sales purposes. Most sites identify this as a C. annuum. But some call it a C. chinense. What I have grown is definitely a C. annuum. The heat is similar to but not as hot as a habanero. I do have a bit of difficulty in judging the finer points of heat, however, as beyond a certain point, my tongue just bursts into flame and says, “HOT!”
