“Kiss the Sky” is a favorite that I am so glad to bring back to Bunny Hop Seeds! The reason is the flavor. I am a huge fan of Brandywine and Black Cherry and Cherokee Purple…but the first two just do not produce worth a flip in my garden. On average, I get one fruit from Brandywine and 1-3 fruits from Black Cherry. And I have grown these again and again…but finally gave up.
“Kiss the Sky” is a regular-leaf grow out of Keith Mueller’s Purple Haze F1, selected and stabilized by Tatiana Kouchnareva of Anmore, BC, Canada in 2008-2012. To me, it has the unique smooth and sweet flavor of Brandywine, combined with the deeper flavor in Cherokee Purple. I love it. It has earned my official “Wow!” flavor designation.
I offered this variety for two years before suddenly coming up with pink, not purple, fruits. This season I went back to my source, and with my ONE remaining seed in the packet, grew a plant that survived under a tent all winter to emerge in the spring starting to fruit in April. The fruits are smaller than what I grew before, more of a small cocktail size with the last fruits of the season even more like very large cherries. The plant was in a pickle bucket under less than ideal conditions from October until July, so it is possible that my fruit size was reduced from what it would have been if grown in the ground or in better conditions. The size and shape of my first fruits were more of a match this season, however, to the original packet’s description. Fruit set was excellent for my growing conditions. Highly recommended!
