“Lil’ Peeps” is an original creation by Bunny Hop Seeds. I selected this now-stable variety from a cross I made of Floragold Basket x (Orange Pixie x Orange Strawberry). The fruits are 0.5 to 0.75 ounce, yellow flesh with yellow epidermis, and have sharp enough tips on the fruit blossom ends to actually poke your finger. The tips are off center on the fruits, so when positioned right, they look like little beaks tilting up…hence the name Lil’ Peeps after the baby chicks marshmallow treats.
This is one in particular that MUST be eaten at dead ripe. Otherwise, the flesh will be too firm (like the Floragold Basket parent) and the flavor will not be fully developed. At dead ripe, the flesh is succulent and the flavor is almost like a green-when-ripe, sweet and tangy but more like nice green grapes…light. Fruit set is prolific.
If grown in a small pot (1 gal or smaller) the habit will be bushy but fairly upright, about 12″ tall. If grown in a large pot or basket, the habit will be BROADLY recumbent with long branches reaching out, but still about 12-14″ tall. The leaves are large oddly cupped with rolled edges, very pretty. I think it takes its flavor, better than Floragold Basket, from the Orange Pixie x Orange Strawberry parent.
