Marcus’ Meatball

“Marcus’ Meatball” is a Bunny Hop Seeds original creation. Marcus’ Meatball developed from the cross that produced Prime Rib. I don’t normally want to pursue varieties that are quite similar to each other from the same cross, but Meatball has emerged through the years as a different variety. It is not a large squatty beefsteak as Prime Rib is. Marcus’ Meatball is a medium chocolate, more rounded beefsteak. Even with this difference I would not have introduced it as a new variety, except that it had some pretty impressive reviews from a gentleman who helped me with the growout. Here are his comments throughout the growing season (I promise I did not pay him to write these nice things!):

“I just can’t say enough about Meatball.  It has disease resistance like a Sherman tank. The production is off the charts. Rosa de Falula finally gave up on me last week.  While Meatball keeps going and going.”

“The reason I wanted to email you is a comment that my mother made.  She asked if I could grow her that ‘new tasty tomato’.  Well, then I made reference to Carolina Dusk.  She said no not that one.  The little dark tomato…MEATBALL!! I’ll need at least three plants.  When she’s eating ‘a favorite tomato’.  Hands off her tomatoes.  Two for her.  One for me to harvest seeds.”

“’MEATBALL’ is a super productive tomato with great balanced flavor.  It’s not too tart or too sweet…Meatball is great smooth tasting tomato that deserves its own place to shine!!”
