Mojo Blackie is a very hot chile created by Mojo Peppers. The parents are Bhut Jolokia x Pimenta da Neyde. In full sun, as I planted it this year, the unripe fruits were jet black that ripened to mostly but not completely red. The fruits look like glowing embers. Mojo Blackie appears to be a sister line to Mojo Scoundrel. Enrique at Mojo Pepper stated that he received this variety from Domenico “Mascalzone,” who is an Italian master grower, so I will guess that the original cross was made by Domenico. In a 7 gal grow bag the plant grew to 5 feet with slender black branches. You really have to look for the fruits. In full sun but cooler temperatures, the seedling plants may show black leaves (see photo) that turn green in the heat/adult plants. Another vendor has described the flavor as an “amazing rich” taste with a strong burn. I cannot verify this as I have developed an allergy to capsaicin since I started growing superhots in 2015. Even through my mask, though, I can smell the strong and seductive aroma unique to superhots.
