“Puerto Rican Beauty” is a lovely eggplant that is rather difficult to find in a Google search. I found only one vendor selling a similar name, but it was “Rosita Puerto Rican Beauty,” which is not the same thing. Rosita and Puerto Rican Beauty were both bred by the Puerto Rico Agricultural Experimental Station, Rio Piedras. They shared the same vendor, Seed Farms Division of the Puerto Rico Agricultural Experimental Station. They were both produced in 1944. The lineage, however, is different. Puerto Rican Beauty’s parentage is Black Beauty x Native strain, while Rosita’s parentage is Native White x Black Beauty. Puerto Rican Beauty has a gorgeous purple color, rather than rose, and is smaller than Rosita. I have found that both are prolific. I do not have many seeds this season because quite sadly I ate most of the fruits produced by my one plant. They were that good!
