Santorini

“Santorini” is a beautiful small commercial heirloom tomato from the island of Santorini in Greece. The plants are quite tall and produce abundantly, even in the heat. Santorini fruits are 1.3 to 2 ounce red ruffled tomatoes, some being taller and more pear-shaped, and some being less ruffled and flatter in shape. I found their flavor to be an excellent blend of sugar and acid with a real old-fashioned tomato flavor that leaves no musky aftertaste. The flesh is firm but not crunchy. While the fruits were plentiful, seeds within each fruit were scarce. Supposedly Santorini can be grown without watering; however, I did water mine and still had great flavor.
