“Ted’s Pink Currant” is speculated to be one of the only pink currant tomatoes in existence. I grew this variety in 2015 and 2016 and I have to say that the flavor improved markedly with less watering. In 2015 the flavor was sharply acid without sweetness…lemon power! Later I grew it in a pot, with less water, and the flavor was strong but had sweetness with the acid.
In addition to being a very beautiful tomato, Ted’s Pink Currant has met the challenges of my hot and humid growing conditions very well. In fact, there are still fruits on a live plant of this variety in early July, when 97% of my tomato plants have met their normal early summer demise. I will say that this variety has heat tolerance for this reason.
NOTE: Seeds for currant tomatoes often appear to take longer than other types to germinate, so please be patient while waiting for the seedling to appear. BEST results occur with planting in a seed starting mix rather than using the wet paper towel with plastic bag or other methods that allow light to reach the seeds. I do not know that light has anything to do with the results, but it is one of the few differences I can think of with these techniques.
