  • “Tomatito de Jalapa” is an excellent little currant tomato, a very small bright red powerhouse of tomato flavor. The ruby gems are not overly sweet, but the bursts of flavor you get can make you wonder how something so small can taste so big. Tomatito de Jalapa is said to grow wild in the mountains of Jalapa, Mexico. The city of Jalapa is also called Xalapa, and residents of Xalapa are reportedly called Xalapeños or Jalapeños, which is also the name of the popular peppers cultivated there.
One of the nicest things about growing currant-types is that you can grow them in the ground and get a huge bushy plant, or you can grow them in small pots and get a 2-3ft bushy plant that can be pruned further, and still provide a decent amount of fruits for your snacking pleasure.
